Smoke on the Amplifier!
2013-11-07 12:40:48 EST It was a smalltime show at a tiny venue in the middle of nowhere. The sound engineer was an eccentric guy who prided himself on having built most of the audio equipment at the venue himself. We were on the road, so were happy to use one of his amps as we were travelling light. About two songs into the show, we're getting going & getting into the flow when there was suddenly a deafening bang. After nearly emptying the contents of my bowels, I turned around to see the amplifier was on fire. Smoke was pouring out of it and a small flame was burning inside. The crowd didn't seem to know whether it was part of the show or not, but when we grabbed our stuff & ran out of the door, I think they understood.
